Update/New Projects/Back to My Break!

I'm still on break, but I wanted to show you what I've accomplished so far:

This is an apron I made for Handyman's granddaughter's upcoming 2 year old birthday.  When I was a little girl, my mother made me a terry-cloth plaid apron that was a copy of hers. I just loved it.

At the narrowest part at the waistband, it is 12" wide, and from the waistband to the hem, it is 9" long.  I had just the exact amount of fabric to do this, only a narrow strip left over that went in the trash. Have you ever heard the saying, "God is in the details"?  This project exemplified that. I would sit at my sewing machine and contemplate how to sew a different detail, and suddenly it would enter my mind the proper way to create that detail. I knew I wanted to make the ends of the ties on an angle, but I couldn't figure out how to turn them in and still come up with a point. God showed me. Then, He showed me how to do about 4 other special touches before I even thought of proceeding. When I first started on this apron, the exact size was already cut, even the apron strings were already cut, and the top of the apron was already gathered a bit.  It was like the entire project had already been laid out--it cut my time in half!

One day as I was looking up at my bedroom ceiling, I thought it might be a cool idea to paint part of it to look like the sky:

I've noticed that the skies are blue, and clouds are white. I tried to fade it out on the edges and make it look natural. I'm still going to paint a few birds on this, but I can't get close enough to do much detail. I am standing on the bed, you know, and with my arms up above my head, my heart was beating 9 million beats a minute. I had to flop down on the bed and rest awhile!

It took a few days for Handyman to discover this, and when he did, he said, "What is THAT on the ceiling?"  Well, I thought it was obvious. Then he said, "It looks like mold and I think you have too much time on your hands."

In progress
This is my next project to finish, and then, it's on to making my raggedy quilts--not 'tragedy' quilts like Geoff thought. I had to pat myself on the back for getting some not so fun projects out of the way first. Now, I'm back to my break from blogging and really enjoying it. I've been stopping in at a few of your blogs during this time. I couldn't completely forget you all!

Very cute little apron you made there, Joy. I don't think your sky looks like mold. It's pretty! Sometimes men just don't understand!

Aw that little apron will be so cute on the Jossy Pooh! Can't wait to see you both again. Praying the weather is good for a birthday party in the dead of winter!

Oh joy the apron is precious. You did a fine job. As for the ceiling, it looks like the sky to me. That was something I was always afraid to try, you did very well with it.
The planter is cute too but I think you need to make more so you can have a set! Have fun!
Love Di ♥

Hi Joy! lovely blog! I just commented back to you on my blog...but I want to say I love that apron...and the blue sky! I also like your past story of when God directed your path when you were lost among the cabins and the man pulled some writing paper out of his Bible! I think I will let your quilts on the line drying influence me for my next post. love, andrea
